Configure a Ping monitor
Check whether a hostname or IP address responds. Probes connect over TCP to port 80, falling back to 443, because raw ICMP is unavailable from the fleet.
Set the target and check behavior
- Enter a valid hostname or IP address as the target.
- Choose a check interval your plan allows, up to 1 hour. The default is 5 minutes.
- Set the timeout from 1 to 30 seconds. The default is 5 seconds.
- Set retries from 1 to 10 attempts. The default is 3.
- Set the ICMP packet size from 32 to 1472 bytes. The default is 56 bytes.
- These timeout, retry, and packet-size settings are saved with the monitor but are not applied by the probe fleet yet: each check is a TCP connect with a 10-second dial timeout and the fleet-wide retry policy.
Set alert thresholds
- Set the latency threshold from 1 to 30000 ms. The default is 1000 ms.
- Set the packet-loss threshold from 1% to 100%. The default is 10%.
- Thresholds are saved with the monitor; alerts are currently raised on up/down status only, so they are not evaluated yet.
These fields are stored for a future alerting release; they do not change behavior today. Alerts fire on the confirmed up/down status only.
