Monitors
Choose the monitor type that matches the target
Select the check that measures the signal you need: an HTTP response, host reachability, or a TCP connection.
Available monitor types
- HTTP/HTTPS monitors request a URL with a GET and treat any 2xx or 3xx response as up; an invalid TLS certificate fails the check. The status-code, content, and response-time settings in the form are not yet applied by the probes.
- Ping monitors check whether a hostname or IP address accepts a TCP connection on port 80 or 443 (raw ICMP is unavailable from the probe fleet). Latency, packet-loss, packet-size, timeout, and retry settings can be entered in the form, but the probe fleet does not apply them yet.
- TCP port monitors open a TCP connection to a host and port (10-second dial timeout). Connection timeout, retries, expected response, and connection-time threshold can be entered in the form, but the probe fleet does not apply them yet.
Where SSL checks fit
SSL certificate validation is an option on an HTTP/HTTPS monitor, not a separate monitor type. It is enabled by default and is configured in the HTTP monitor form.

- Start with a URL, hostname, or host and port in the monitor creation flow.
- Review the detected type or choose one manually.
